Prologue to Cat’s Practical Angel Oracle
I have previously described my angel oracle deck, Cat’s Practical Angel Oracle, as being a description of archetypes related to daily human living that helps bring the numinous closer to our grasp, setting up this deck as if the lofty angels are as familiar as coworkers at our day jobs. I’m realizing now that this is not accurate, and my prior explanation a disservice to what I have created.
Glyphs have long been ways to convey compact sets of information. Each packet can be crammed with terabytes that we only have to unzip. That is to say, the esoteric knowledge, the hidden truths of the universe, can be summed up in pictures, and we can unlock them with our perception to gain the proverbial thousand words forty-seven times per deck. We look at one of the cards, we meditate on it; which is to say that we don’t think about what’s happening, we feel what the image means by how our bodies react to what’s being presented.
This goes beyond even what I was aware of while pairing an angel to an archetypal job, the keywords, and the imagery I would render for each card. My physical mind has limitations as to what it can comprehend at any given moment. Likewise, my body has limitations as to what it can then push out of my hands in translation of said information to the observer.
For example, my Squared Circle card, the Angel Kerubiel, has the twin serpents of the Kundalini each on their own pole, with a lotus between them atop the squared circle. I did not know when I worked on this card from 2019 to 2023 that I would be watching a podcast interview in May of 2026 that describes the chakra-based planning around the Nile Delta in a way that exactly matches what I’ve deposited on this card.
Anyone can pull information from the Akashic Record and choose to express this information in their own idiosyncratic way. My way happened to be more of “What does so and so [angel] want to be looking like and doing in their image?” and then I simply felt my way through the rest of the task. It’s a very subconscious way of creating the image: it was that I was getting a download that I was participating in while it came through. Other times drawing the angel cards was more like automatic writing where I went with the flow and only myself saw a version of what was to be seen when I finished applying the rainbow Sharpie markers.
That is why of Cat’s Practical Angel Oracle is so important that I have been chomping at the bit since I finished it three years ago to have it published. Fair enough, I took over a year off to recover from cancer, but the fact remains, this has been with me since I started the outline and thumbnail sketches in the fall of 2019.
There are concepts I want to illustrate to others, to explain to them, and I could do with so much more facility if this deck were manifest via printing. These cards can be taken at face value for diviners to check their work, but the best use for them is deep spiritual comprehension. And by spiritual I mean spiritus – breath, what which fills you with vital energy, the prana, the life force, that which radiates light into your heart and mind. It lets you know if data coming in smells funny or smells like something you desire to absorb into yourself.
